How Muslim Content Creators Can Make Money

I was watching The Mad Mamluks Livestream last week. And SIM, the producer, talked about a call he was on with other Muslim content creators. The topic of the call?

How Muslim content creators can monetize their creative projects.

The funny thing is, I’ve been talking about this for years. And I’ve given The Mad Mamluks and other Muslim podcasts the exact blueprint on how to make real money from their shows… Instead of begging for donations on Patreon.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the Patreon model works. And there are quite a few content creators who make a significant amount per month from patrons.

But I don’t think it’s the best model for Muslim content creators because…

The Muslim audience has a low willingness to pay for content

Well, they don’t want to pay for Muslim content, at least. They will pay for Netflix and other entertainment.

Take the Mad Mamluks, for example. They’ve been podcasting since September 2016. 4 years, 250+ episodes. How many Patreon supporters do they have? 51, all paying between $3 and $10 per month.

That’s utterly ridiculous.

Even if every subscriber was paying $10/month – and they aren’t… They’re making $510/month gross. Minus Patreon’s fees and payment processing, let’s say 10% gets deducted… That’s $450/month.

Think about how much time and money they’ve invested in producing that show. Thousands of hours. Tens of thousands of dollars in equipment. Even the hackneyed Muslim argument of… “But Knowledge should be free…” Doesn’t apply, because it’s not a religious show!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to have the intention to be a content creator as a hobby. But in my experience, most people expect a reward for their hard work. That’s why you find a lot of Muslim content creators tend to start strong, fizzle out, then quit.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. I believe that Muslim content creators deserve to make money for the value they create in the world. Two other examples come to mind of Muslim content creators…

Monetizing the right way

  1. Safina Society Podcast – they build an online education platform called Arkview, where students pay a subscription to take Islamic Studies classes.

  2. Daniel Haqiqatjou – also built an online education platform called Alasna Institute, where students pay a subscription to take courses on Islamic apologetics.

This is better than the Patreon model in so many ways.

  1. They’re offering a product with tangible value to their audience instead of begging for donations.

  2. It’s a subscription model, so they make recurring revenue every single month.

  3. They aren’t beholden to Patreon’s censorship and ban-happy policies.

  4. They don’t have to give Patreon a cut of their earnings. They’ll only pay fees to their payment processor.

But what if you don’t have a product or service you can offer?

One of the best ways to monetize a podcast, Youtube channel, or social media following is through affiliate marketing. You promote the products and services of a business to your audience and make a commission on sales.

Influencer marketing is really affiliate marketing except most times the influencer gets paid a flat rate to promote. It’s a lot like having ads on your show. Except affiliate marketing is better because by getting a commission the amount of money you make scales up as your audience grows.

To do affiliate marketing you need

  1. An audience to sell to

  2. A product to promote

  3. A simple, effective way to sell the product to their audience

The Muslim content creator already has an audience. So all that’s left are 2 and 3.

How do you find products to promote?

You can do it manually by reaching out to companies. Or these companies might reach out to you. But there’s a better way to find products you know are selling well. Because remember, you’re getting paid a commission. So you don’t want to promote products that suck.

How do you sell the product to your audience?

The most simple and reliable way I’ve found is email marketing. You’ve got your audience online ask them to subscribe to your email list. Maybe you can offer a gift to get them to sign up.

Once they’re on your email list simply email them and tell them about the product you’re promoting, then give them a link to buy. It’s the most simple way there is to make money online. And if you’d like to know more about it…

I recently bought a book that teaches you exactly how to do it.

It’s called…

The Secret Email System

The author’s name is Matt Bacak. He’s been in the online marketing business since 1999. And he’s made over $23.4+ million with email marketing.

In Secret Email System, Matt goes over the most important fundamentals of online marketing. Yes, the book is mainly about email but you can apply the concepts to any format. Podcasts, Youtube, TikTok, social media in general. If you’ve got an audience to sell to, these principles apply.

Matt talks about creating a 7-figure business with email marketing but…

What if you could just make an extra $1,000 a month?

How would that affect your life? What if you could use email marketing to make your current salary or more? Would you keep working a 9-to-5 or would you quit your job?

What if you’re trying to get married and the skills you learn in Secret Email System let you pay for the mahr… the nikah… the walima… and the honeymoon without any help from your or her parents?

The possibilities are endless. And all you have to do is read a book and apply what you discover.

Secret Email System is available for just $5.60. For less than the price of today’s lunch you could gain freedom over both your money and time. That’s a no-brainer to me and it’s why I bought a copy of the book myself.
